Funding available for community projects that support biodiversity
Posted: 28 April 2025
We are accepting applications for Projects that Explore Biodiversity Benefits in the Local Environment (PEBBLE).
The PEBBLE Fund aims to directly improve biodiversity by funding projects that support, restore or create habitats within our supply area.
Now in its tenth year, we have awarded over £360,000 in funding to 125 projects in South Staffs and Cambridge. More than 100 hectares have been improved through a variety of initiatives, including the planting of hedgerows and wildflowers, and the removal of non-native invasive species, which destroy habitats for our native wildlife.
Up to £10,000 of funding is available for projects such as:
- River restoration
- Tree planting
- Wildflower areas and habitat restoration
- Pond creation/restoration

Dan Clark, Water Resources and Environment Manager commented: “We recognise the vital role we play as a company in our region in enhancing the protecting the environment. Through the PEBBLE Fund, we are proud to support projects that protect, restore and enhance biodiversity across our supply area.
“By investing in initiatives that increase habitat diversity and tackle the impacts of invasive, non-native species, we are not only safeguarding wildlife, we are also helping to create more resilient, vibrant spaces for people to enjoy.”
This fund could be of interest to local river interest groups, environmental organisations, charities, community organisations and schools.
Please note, you must either own the land or have permission from the landowner for the project, and the work cannot have already taken place.
Applications are open until Monday 29 September 2025.
