To qualify for the tariff, you must have a water meter installed at your property and you must have a yearly household income between £22,011 and £27,000.

When working out your household income, do not take into account any of the following benefits if you are on them:

• Attendance allowance 
• Disability living allowance
• Personal independence payment
• Carers allowance
• Housing benefit or Housing allowance
• Council tax
  

We class essential use as using water for the following:

• bathing – e.g. showers, baths
• drinking
• cooking
• flushing toilets
• washing – e.g. washing machines, dishwashers, washing up in a bowl
• cleaning – e.g. floors, sinks

Any water used above the following thresholds will be classed as non-essential use. Your ‘essential’ water usage will depend on how many people live in your household:

• 1-2 people = 150 litres per day
• 3-4 people = 300 litres per day
• 5+ people = 400 litres per day

Once you have applied, we will let you know whether you have been successful in the coming days.

If you are successful, you will receive a welcome pack to explain how the tariff will work.

If you are unsuccessful, you will receive an email detailing other support available to help you pay your bill.

The tariff will last for 18 months. At that point, we will contact you to discuss which tariff would be best to continue to support you.

You will always receive a discount on your ‘essential use.’ This amount is dependent on the number of people living in your household:

• 1-2 people = 150 litres per day
• 3-4 people = 300 litres per day
• 5+ people = 400 litres per day

Any water you use above these thresholds will be charged at your usual metered charge. Even if you keep your water use the same as it is currently, you will still save money on your bill from the applied discount. If you can reduce the amount of water you use, then you will save even more!  

The Assure – Essential Saver offers you a 60% discount on your ‘essential’ water usage which includes activities such as bathing, drinking, cooking and washing.

Your ‘essential’ water usage will depend on how many people live in your household:

• 1-2 people = 150 litres per day
• 3-4 people = 300 litres per day
• 5+ people = 400 litres per day

To give an example, if you live in a household of 1-2 people and you use 160 litres of water per day, you will receive a 60% discount for the 150 litres used because we class this as your 'essential use'. You will only be charged at your usual metered rate for the 10 litres you used over your ‘essential use’.

To calculate how much water you have saved since signing up for the tariff, please look back at previous readings you have sent to us or that we have taken. You can find these on MyAccount.

Alternatively, you can contact our team on 0345 60 70 456 and they can give you your recent meter readings. 

To calculate how much money you have saved by being on the tariff, you can compare a bill received before being on the tariff with one you have received whilst on the tariff.

You don’t need to change the way you use water to save money as you will always get a 60% discount on your ‘essential’ usage. But, if you do reduce your consumption, you will be able to reduce your bill even more.

If you can’t read your meter, please call our team on 0345 60 70 456 and we can come up with an alternative for you.

If your meter stops working, please contact our metering team on 0345 60 70 456 who will begin the process of fitting you a replacement meter.

Whilst your meter is being replaced, we will bill you on estimated meter readings. We will continue to take accurate meter readings once your new meter has been installed.

Your drainage/sewerage charges will remain the same. This discount only applies to the clean water element of your bill. This is the water that comes through your taps.
